On Tuesday, February 10, nearly 200 Parker voices of all ages joined in song on the Auditorium stage to a packed audience!
Performing groups included Colonel Choir(an extracurricular choir for students in 2nd–5th grades), Amplify (an extracurricular choir for students in Middle School) and Encore (the adult community choir, now in its second year).
As the concert started, MS teacher and director Rob Denien reminded the audience that Tuesday evening’s concert celebrated the power of choosing to sing with and for others and the vital importance of coming together in community through performing. He said that singing with others—regardless of ability or talent—reminds us that we can gather to give ourselves to something greater, we can gather to find a deeper meaning behind our human condition and we can gather because we need to.
The event would not happen without the support of talented teachers and adults within the Parker community, including: JK teacher and Colonel Choir Co-Director Stacy Buehler; parent, alum and Encore Co-Director Chelsea Dolinar-Hikawa ’92, EncoreAdministrative Assistant and former Parker employee Mara Smith; US Choral Director and Amplify Co-Director Christian Jackson; percussion adjunct faculty member Lindsay Williams; and new choral accompanist and piano teacher Sarah Jenks.
All groups are currently welcoming new members for the start of their second session. Any students interested in joining Colonel Choir or Amplify should reach out to Rob Denien at rdenien@fwparker.org. For interest in joining Encore, reach out to Mara Smith, at mara.smith512@gmail.com.
