Parker Dazzles at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Competition
By Performing Arts Department Co-Chair Rob Denien
Parker’sAdvanced Choral Ensemble, directed by Christian Jackson, performed at the Illinois High School Association’s Solo and Ensemble Competition. This is an annual, state-wide music competition where students perform for judges and are placed into divisions based on the score their performance receives (either superior, excellent, good, average or poor).
The average score of the day for all choral ensembles was 29.7/40 (Division III—Good).
Our Advanced Choral Ensemble was ranked Division 1—Superior with a final score of 38/40. This is an incredible accomplishment for Parker, and our students represented us exceptionally well!
Three Parker student representatives performed solos at the event. Sophomore Uriel Castaneda and junior Sienna Nikitas entered solos in the Musical Theatre category and received Division 1 (superior) rankings. Junior Evan O’Connor entered the Jazz category with his solo, receiving a Division 2 (excellent) ranking.
This was a fantastic day for our performing arts community at Parker. If you see these students around (listed below) please congratulate them on their strong showing on behalf of our school!
