The 3rd grade recently welcomed Bear Williams to the newly created Club 245 to speak on the history of the blues, tell his own story and perform selections of blues music.
Similar to the “Where our Food Comes From” elective, these 3rd graders chose the “Blues Inquiry” group to learn more about Chicago. Now they travel “out into the field” to learn even more. “Our Blues Inquiry group has been having such a great time researching the history of the blues in Chicago and some of the people who shaped it,” 3rd grade teacher Sarah Noonan shared.
Recently, the group traveled with the “Chicago Legends” collective to Nick Cave’s studio Facility before heading back to campus to put the finishing touches on the transformation from Classroom 245 to Club 245. This blues club, owned and operated by the Blues Inquiry group, welcomed blues musician Bear Williams, who spoke on blues history and his own path into blues music, and he performed for the students to emphasize some of the elements of his remarks.
Parker thanks Williams for coming to speak to the 3rd grade students and sharing his history and music, leading everyone to get up off their seats and head to the dance floor.
