Dancers in the Intermediate School started a recent morning with a performance filled with music and motion.
The 4th and 5th grade dancers in the “Parker Groovers” Intermediate School Dance Club came together for their second performance of the year. Juniors Fiona Chazen and Jade Labkon initiated this program last year as a way of sharing their passion for dance with younger students, and the club has grown in size and ability since launching. Chazen’s interests in sharing her love for dance with others go beyond Parker: She is currently immersed in an Independent Study teaching dance to children who are deaf or hard of hearing at Cooper Dual Language School.
For the past two years, these students have met for practice in the Small Gym early in the morning for a pair of seven-week sessions. The older students help the younger dancers explore new styles of dance, play dance games and create their own choreography. The end of each session culminates in a performance of the dancers sharing their new moves with their friends and families.
