History Teachers Educate Visitors from Columbus Academy

Three of Parker’s history teachers recently opened their doors to share their passion for pedagogy with peer educators visiting from Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio.

Columbus Academy is undergoing an internal review of its Social Studies curriculum, and the review process includes visiting other independent schools with innovative programs and practices to help inform their work moving forward. Of most interest to this group during their visit was Social Studies curriculum that addressed development of citizenship skills and student-centered dispositions.

While at Parker, the visiting educators had the opportunity to observe four master teachers in action, as Jeanne Barr, Sue Elliot, Keedra Gibba and Dan Greenstone each shared their unique take on superior Social Studies curriculum at Parker.

After spending time in classrooms, the visiting educators left with a better understanding of what makes Parker teachers excited to teach and why Parker students love learning.
