Palmer Produces Planters with 5th Grade Artists

Visual Arts Department Co-Chair Katie Palmer and her cadre of 5th graders finished up a unit involving plants, pottery and paint this week.

To begin this project, 5th graders each received a succulent in art class to study, draw and paint. Students then used pinching and coiling to create unique pot designs for their plants. After the planters were bisque fired and painted with uniquely mixed colors, they were ready for their plants this week.

These students took this project from inception to completion and ended with planters that showcase a wide variety of approaches, styles and colors.

Here are some photos of finished planters.
