Upper School students campaigning for a Student Government office in the 2022–23 academic year recently had an opportunity to appeal to their peers for support as part of Parker’s annual Democrafest.
Each year, Upper School students interested in engaging in participatory democracy within the school’s Student Government campaign and compete for four elected cabinet positions and nearly 20 elected positions on various committees and councils as part of this annual event. Democrafest provides a time and space for candidates to set up a table and “stump” for their strengths and ideas directly to their peers.
While this spring event usually takes place in the school’s courtyard, inclement weather shifted the event to the Kupcinet Gallery, Flora J. Cooke Alcove and Administrative hallway this year. The change in venue did nothing to dampen the energy, enthusiasm and spirit exhibited by the students campaigning, and the hallways were alive with the cacophony of democracy as students worked to convince their peers why they would be a good fit for the position they desired.
