Scholastic Bowl Rallies for Conference Title

By Head Coach Ethan Levine
On Saturday, Parker’s Upper School Scholastic Bowl team successfully hosted its first competition in the team’s six-year history. The tournament field consisted of the 10 member schools in the Metro North Conference, and Parker entered the day with a 7-1 record, a game behind undefeated Walter Payton for first place.

The team rose to the challenge, emerging victorious in each of its first seven matches and setting the stage for a rematch with Payton that would determine the championship. In a nail-biting affair with several lead changes, Parker went on a run of three consecutive tossups in the waning moments and held on for a thrilling 340-320 victory. Their 15-1 record was enough to earn them the conference title via a total-points tiebreaker for the second consecutive year. Congratulations to Varsity team members (grade levels) Leo Auerbach, Logan Florsheim, Timo Kiep, Grant Koh, Annoshae Mirza and Warner Vance. Koh also took home individual honors as the tournament’s high scorer.

In the JV division, Parker’s freshman and sophomore squad had a very successful day, posting a 5-3 record to finish the day in 4th place. Congratulations to (grade levels) Darius Cleaver, Lincoln Hamid, Spencer Koh, Beckett Nikitas, Nash Oliphant and Chase Wayland.

Up next, the team awaits its seeding for the IHSA regionals in March and looks forward to competing in the Small Schools National Championship Tournament in April.
