Twenty-Five Years of 6th Grade Retreats and Still Going Strong

By Science teacher Peg Zerega

For 25 years, the 6th grade students have traveled to the Indiana Dunes to study the unique ecosystems of the National Park.

The programs, Frog in the Bog and Duneversity, ask student scientists to select a question, gather data and present findings to classmates, the National Park Ranger and the DLC Naturalists. For one full day, the students hike the Cowles Bog Trail and visit five ecosystems, conducting research to answer their questions.

This year, the Parker 6th Grade Team received the Green Apple Award, celebrating our 25 years of shared work.
