Junior Mathematician Places 18th in Nation

Junior Darius Cleaver’s performance in the Math Kangaroo competition earned him 18th in the nation for his grade level.

More than 50,000 students participated in this year’s Math Kangaroo international math competition. The 90-minute exam features 30 questions of varying difficulty and allows for students to challenge themselves and compete with students from around the world in a fun way.

One of 42 Parker students who participated, Cleaver finished 18th among the 410 juniors who participated in this year’s competition. He is no stranger to math accolades, having earned a perfect score at an Illinois Math League competition earlier this year.

Teacher and Math Department Chair Steve Tyler was instrumental in bringing the Math Kangaroo competition to Parker this year. He shared, “Darius enjoys the beauty of mathematics. Coming out of the competition, Darius stated that this was his favorite competition of the year because there were several questions that were written differently than other competitions that he has participated in this year. I am looking forward to seeing Darius continue along his mathematical journey next year at Parker.”

Parker congratulates Darius and all the students who jumped at the chance to participate in Math Kangaroo competition this year.
