Students in Junior Kindergarten have been learning about the importance of calming oneself down when they feel overwhelmed.
While it is normal to feel stressed out once in a while, it is important to learn healthy ways to destress. Mindfulness jars can help do just that by providing a swirly, shiny and fluid element to focus on while slowing breathing and finding relaxation.
Junior Kindergarten teachers recently invited parents and guardians to the school to work together to make mindfulness jars of their own. In these gatherings, pairs worked to fill their bottles, first with glycerin and warm water, then adding their choice of glitter, sparkles and food coloring to the concoction before lids were secured with hot glue.
While the instructions and materials provided to each grouping were the same, the products that emerged were as unique as the families who helped create them.
Many thanks to all the parents/guardians, teachers and students who worked together on this project.
