Empowerment and Community Building at the YMOC Symposium

Middle and Upper School male students of color recently joined their peers from around the city at Parker on a Saturday morning for the 6th Cullen J. Davis Young Men of Color Symposium.

This annual event featured opportunities for participants to explore their multiple identities and learn skills geared toward self-advocacy and community-building. The goal was to empower students to effect positive change in their lives and their communities, using newly acquired language and knowledge. Adult participants participated in workshops to critically explore how to create and sustain courageous, safe spaces within their schools and beyond to successfully serve young self-identified men of color.

Award-winning educator, spoken word poet and public speaker Donovan Livingston provided the keynote speech.

Parker thanks the students and adults who helped make this year’s event a success.
