Parent Involvement

“The school should be linked to the home on one side, and to society on the other so that the child’s development shall be one line of continuous growth into citizenship.”
– Flora J. Cooke in paper read before the Parents’ Association of the Francis W. Parker School, December 6, 1910
Parker stands as a progressive school dedicated to the growth and development of the whole person in relation to the growth and development of the whole school community, on behalf of our democratic society and the wider world. Parker’s complete community would not be whole without a vital partnership with our parents and guardians.

Through their open communication, passionate volunteer involvement and essential financial support, parents and guardians work in collaboration with the school to help bring Parker’s mission to life beyond the classroom.

Parent Partnership Agreement

As parents engaged in the education and development of Parker students…
Our goals are to communicate openly with the school and each other on behalf of our children; volunteer and participate in the life of the school; and contribute financially to support the school at whatever level we are able in its effort to provide an excellent education for its students.

As members of the Parker community...
We appreciate that education thrives when parents trust the school, the students and other parents with a spirit of open-mindedness, a respect for diversity and generosity with time, ideas and resources.

As adults…
We know that children listen to our words and watch our actions to better understand how they relate to teachers, students and other adults throughout the school.

Parker Parents’ Association

The Parents’ Association (PA) is an inclusive, school-wide organization made up of ALL current Parker parents and guardians. You don’t need to sign up or register on the portal, all you need is a current student at Parker and YOU’RE IN!

The mission of the PA is to cultivate a vibrant parent community that engages everyone in the life of the school. The PA aims to keep the community socially engaged and as connected is possible, all while supporting the school’s efforts in providing an inclusive and empathic education for all students.

The PA holds 5 meetings every year. The meetings outline what’s going on at Parker–including reports from the Board and the PA itself–as well as a featured topic. PA Meetings are featured on the Blue Calendar.

  • Parent/Guardian Workshops

These important workshops invite parents/guardians to consider the topic “Will Your Child Be Ready for Success in the 21st Century?” by discussing the ways many parents/ guardians inadvertently prepare their children to live in the world they grew up in, rather than the 21st century global society that children will inherit—with globalization, changing demographics in the United States and a more collaborative workforce. The ability to communicate effectively across difference is non-negotiable for 21st century global citizens who will matriculate into an international collegiate experience and a multicultural professional and social environment.
Francis W. Parker School educates students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.
