What do civic engagement and comedy have in common? More than you might think. In this dynamic and hilarious talk, Brad Jenkins—former White House staffer, award-winning comedy producer and CEO of Enfranchisement Productions—shows students how storytelling, humor and creativity can turn apathy into action. Using behind-the-scenes stories from projects with President Barack Obama and Zach Galifianakis and campaigns with cultural icons and movement leaders alike, Jenkins reveals how comedy has been used to spark movements, build community and inspire young people to believe in their own power. With heart, humor and real-life examples, he empowers the next generation to see themselves as active citizens and reminds us all that hope and laughter are essential tools for change.

Before joining Will Ferrell’s Funny Or Die as Managing Director and Executive Producer, Jenkins spent four years serving as President Obama’s Associate Director in The White House Office of Public Engagement. From The White House, Jenkins brought together creative executives, thought leaders and some of the world’s biggest stars to advance the President’s agenda—culminating in the Emmy-Award winning “Between Two Ferns” interview on the Affordable Care Act.
