All are welcome to an evening with the 17th annual Robert A. Pritzker Visiting Scientist partner, the Lincoln Park Zoo, featuring Zoo Program Directors Dr. Katie Cronin and Dr. Seth Magle, who will talk about their respective research on animal welfare and urban wildlife.
 
Dr. Cronin is the Director of the Animal Welfare Science Program at the Lincoln Park Zoo. She is an animal welfare scientist and primatologist who strives to understand the experience of animals living in non-wild settings and improve our understanding of animals and the welfare of animals in human care. Her research integrates the study of behavioral and emotional changes that occur in animals and is geared toward practical, actionable insights. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and a B.S. in Zoology from University of Wisconsin. Previously, Dr. Cronin worked at the Max Planck Institute (Netherlands) and was a faculty member of the University of Chicago’s Committee on Evolutionary Biology. 
 
Dr. Magle is the Director of the Urban Wildlife Institute at the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Executive Director of the Urban Wildlife Information Network, a global alliance of dozens of cities working together to study animals in cities. He holds a PhD in Ecology from Colorado State University and has published more than 50 articles on urban wildlife species ranging from prairie dogs to rats to birds. Dr. Magle’s vision is to help create a world in which cities are a critical part of the conservation of biodiversity.
 
The Robert A. Pritzker Visiting Scientist•Inventor•Engineer in Residence program was created by a gift to Parker in honor of engineer, industrialist and philanthropist Robert A. Pritzker ’44. This program aims to expand science education opportunities at Parker and foster an ongoing dialogue among students and teachers about current issues in science. Previous recipients include Dr. Leon M. Lederman, Dr. Paul Sereno, Dr. Russell Mittermeier and Christina Mittermeier, Dr. Edward “Rocky” Kolb, Dr. Ka Yee Lee, Dr. Don Hillebrand, Dr. Matthew Tirrell, Dr. Elizabeth Gerber, Dr. Sian Beilock, Dr. Wendy Freedman, Dr. Rick Stevens, Dr. Eve Van Cauter, Dr. Dinee Simpson, Dr. Farah Fahim and Jamal Moss.
