Parker’s Upper School Scholastic Bowl team traveled to Atlanta during Memorial Day weekend to participate at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament. This was the program’s first-ever appearance at the sport’s premier event, which this year featured 304 elite teams from 40 states.
The Parker squad entered the tournament ranked #150 in the nation and competed admirably in prelims, earning impressive victories over Westview (CA, #93), St. Joseph Central (MO, #177), Lake Highland (FL, #211), Aurora (OH, #229) and Innovation Academy C (VA, unranked). Their 5-5 record in prelims was just short of the winning record necessary for advancement to the playoffs. Not missing a beat, the team bounced back with a 5-0 run through the consolation bracket to end their weekend on a high note. The team’s final tournament placement was 131 out of 304. Congratulations to sophomores Logan Florsheim, Lincoln Hamid and Annoshae Mirza and juniors Grant Koh and Warner Vance on their fantastic performance.
A special congratulations to junior Grant Koh, who scored his 1,000th career varsity tossup. Grant has been a mainstay in the varsity lineup since his freshman year and has been an integral part of the team's recent success.
Optimism abounds as the team heads into the offseason. While the program graduates two key seniors, the future is bright with several returning players ready to improve on this year's accomplishments.
