Fourth Grade Visits the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall

The trip to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall is our annual 4th grade music field trip. This trip serves to enhance our music appreciation curriculum and connect our students with one of the many great music organizations and experiences available in our city.

We prepared and were excited to attend this concert for many reasons. First, it included music by Russian composers and exquisite ballet dancing that conveyed many emotions and told stories of conflict and harmony. Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and Stravinsky’s “The Firebird” were among the compositions we experienced with dancing by members of the Joffrey Academy of Dance. Dynamic Canadian conductor Tania Miller explained each piece and helped students listen for specific important moments in the music.

Following the beautiful concert, we had the privilege of a stage tour given to us by Mr. Eric Milstein, the Lyric Opera percussionist. The stage tour was organized and led by CSO violist Mr. Li-Kuo Chang and CSO senior vice president Ms. Vanessa Moss, both Parker parents, to whom we are very thankful. It was an enriching experience for all.
