AFS Student Brings Traditional Ghanaian Movement to Choir

The Upper School choirs are preparing a set of traditional Ghanaian songs for our November Morning Ex performance. This week, one of our choir members acted as a culture bearer for each class. Evelyn Adongo, our American Field Service (AFS) student from Ghana, introduced us to traditional Ghanian dance and movement, which will add to our performance!

Adongo, an experienced dancer, demonstrated some moves before having us try them ourselves. She also discussed how the role of a leader differs from planned choreography in traditional Ghanian dance. During our performance in November, she will be the leader, signaling the choir when it’s time to change dance moves.

We are so lucky to have her in the Upper School choirs. She is a wonderful resource and so willing to share her experiences and knowledge to give our music learning more context and meaning.
