Brackett Delivers Permission to Feel

Parker’s faculty and staff, along with friends and colleagues from Latin School of Chicago, this week welcomed Marc Brackett, PhD, to speak on his book Permission to Feel.  Brackett is the founder and director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and a professor in the Child Study Center of Yale University, and he serves on the board of directors of the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

Brackett spoke about his history and how he became involved with social and emotional learning (SEL). He also talked about RULER, an evidence-based approach to SEL that he co-created and forwhich he is the lead developer. RULER is a tool that provides a school with the ability and means to understand the value of emotions, build emotional intelligence skills and create and maintain a positive school climate. To date, nearly 2,000 pre-K–12 schools across the globe have adopted this approach.

Parker thanks Brackett for spending time with our school community. He provided our teachers with many thought-provoking and informative topics and ideas.
