Freshman Robotics Team wins Rookie Sensation Award at State Tournament

Last weekend, one of Parker’s robotics teams, #9410 Frank’s Garage, competed at the FIRST FTC Illinois State Tournament. This team intentionally includes all 9th graders to ensure they get a more hands-on experience with all aspects of the program, since it is their first time doing US robotics. This year was the first time the freshman team secured a spot at the state tournament through their high ranking at the Chicago League Championship, which Parker hosted in February.

At the state tournament in Elgin, the freshmen represented Parker well and finished the seeding rounds with a record of 3 and 2. Throughout the day, they impressed the judges by performing at the level of the highest teams in the state, most of whom have members with many more years of experience under their belts. For this reason, the judges presented the Parker team with the Rookie Sensation Award and said that they can’t wait to see what the students will accomplish in future years.

Sophomore Warner Vance, one of the members of Parker’s veteran team #3507, also came to the event to help mentor the freshman team.
