Civic Lab Supports RefugeeOne

On a recent Monday, Parker’s Immigration Justice group, a Civic Lab consisting of 15 juniors and their faculty adviser, Matt Laufer, traveled to Devon Avenue, where they purchased household goods for the Burmese Rohingya, Ukrainian and Congolese refugees settling in the Chicago area.

The outing was the culmination of several weeks of fundraising, during which the group raised more than $5,600.  After purchasing scores of goods—shopping carts, knife sets, lotas, rice cookers—the students traveled to RefugeeOne, where they ate an authentic Afghan meal with the organization’s communications director before loading the purchased goods into the RefugeeOne storage units for later delivery to local apartments.

Great work to this group of students and everyone in the Parker community who donated to their cause.
