Student Film to be Shown at AMC Theater in Times Square

When the school year ended in June, then-seniors Kai Contractor and Evan Sato’s film “Remembering Tyler Lumar” was selected for the Student World Impact Film Festival and Indianapolis Black Documentary Film Festival. This short documentary tells the tragic story of Tyler Lumar, a young Black man who was arrested and detained because of a parking ticket. Lumar’s wholly unnecessary death while in police custody reveals the flaws in our criminal justice system.

However, the accolades for these two filmmakers did not step here. During the summer, Contractor and Sato learned that they had been chosen out of more than 2,500 submissions from all 50 states and more than 40 countries as an Official Selection for the 2023 All American High School Film Festival! In addition to further awards, scholarships and prizes potentially still available, this selection means that “Remembering Tyler Lumar” will screen at the AMC Theaters in Times Square!
