Second Grader Wins Gold in New York

On Sunday, January 21, 2nd grade student Arturo Velez accepted an invitation and competed at the 2024 Ocean Breeze Youth Freedom Games/USA Track & Field National Competition in New York City.

With more than 2,000 students from across the U.S. competing in general and about 60 participants in each of Velez’s shot put and track categories, the competition was daunting. However, he showcased his hard work and won 1st place with a Gold medal in shot put for the 8 and under category and 3rd place with a Bronze medal for the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes.

Parker is very proud of Velez for pursuing this passion and excited to see more as his track and field success grows!
