Slam Poets Advance in Competition

Nine Upper School poets recently participated in Rooted & Radical, the world’s largest youth poetry festival.

The team, which has been working on their material in weekly meetings since October, has the most poets Parker has ever offered to participate in a Poetry Slam competition!

Additionally, three poets have been invited to advance in the competition:
  • Junior Uma Morris was voted an All Star Poet and invited to advance to semifinals on Saturday, March 16.
  • Junior Gabriel Vilus received the Jean Baptiste Point-DuSable award and will perform his poem at the Finals Showcase on Friday, March 22.
  • Freshman Beatrix Hirsch received the Mild Sauce on the Side award and will perform her poem at the Finals Showcase as well.
Other Parker poets that rounded out the Parker team so impressively in this competition included senior Naomi Geller; juniors Scarlett Koenig, Annabel McIntosh and Lola Yee; and sophomores Charlotte Paul and Lexi Schneider. Junior Jasper Chazen, sophomores Felix Farkas and Naia Trukenbrod and freshman Aragon Goldman are also on the team but did not compete.

Congratulations to all who participated and good luck to those who are advancing!
