Women’s Affinity Group Welcomes Parker Parent and Board Member

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Parker parent and board member Gennell Jefferson met with Parker’s Women’s Affinity Group (WAG) on Monday, March 25. She shared her personal and professional experiences through a talk entitledShe Can Do It…A Pivotal Journey Down Wall Street and Beyond.” The session offered encouragement and empowerment to the WAG members as they embark on their future academic and career endeavors. Key takeaways included:
  • Live your life…the one filled with your hopes and dreams, not what others prescribe for you…always bet on yourself!
  • Lean into the work…anything worth having will require hard work and perseverance. She shared the following quote from Maya Angelou: “Nothing will work unless you do.”
  • Do it afraid…you have to exercise courage to get to the next level of achievement; transformational growth often entails uncertainty and risk. Passion, determination and belief in yourself will outweigh your fears.
  • Build powerful networks…no one succeeds alone. Leverage your relationships beginning in high school to gain mentors, advocates and others that help you grow and position you for future success.
